We are excited to offer a fantastic opportunity for a permanent Cemetery Operative to join our dynamic Trafford Account in Manchester. This role will be based on site at Tatton House, 11 Caldey Road, Roundthorn Industrial Estate, Wythenshawe, Manchester, M23 9LF. 

 

This position offers a competitive salary.

 

The standard working hours for this role are 36.25 hours per week.  

 

As a Cemetery Opeative, you will be responsible for maintaining cemetery grounds to the highest standards while supporting burial and interment services with dignity, professionalism, and respect.

The successful candidate will be expected to work outdoors in all weather conditions and contribute to ensuring the cemetery remains a peaceful and well-maintained environment for visitors and bereaved families.

 

 

What You’ll Do: 

  • Prepare and backfill graves safely and efficiently.
  • Assist with burials, interments, and memorial-related activities.
  • Carry out grounds maintenance including grass cutting, hedge trimming, planting, and general landscaping.
  • Maintain pathways, boundaries, and cemetery infrastructure.
  • Operate and maintain cemetery equipment, machinery, and vehicles.
  • Ensure all work is carried out in line with health and safety procedures.
  • Provide a courteous and respectful service to visitors and bereaved families.
  • Assist with inspections, record keeping, and general maintenance duties.
  • Report defects, hazards, and maintenance issues promptly.

What You’ll Bring: 

  • Current COTS (Certificate of Training Scheme) qualification.
  • Experience in grounds maintenance, landscaping, cemetery operations, or a similar outdoor environment.
  • Good knowledge of health and safety procedures.
  • Ability to undertake physically demanding work, including digging and manual handling.
  • Experience using grounds maintenance machinery and hand tools.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work sensitively and professionally with members of the public.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.
  • Reliable, punctual, and able to work effectively as part of a team.
